dino races!

As I am typing this blog our exhibit department is constructing the dino race boxes. 10 different species of dinos placed in the exhibits so you can contribute to your favorite dinosaur. We will track the progress of each dino in the lobby on our dino race board so don't forget to check them out on your next visit to the GSDM! Let's see who the winner is going to be this week!

On a side note....we have already gotten some great feedback from families and friends of the Museum who can hardly wait for the new dig site and dino exploration to open! Thanks for everyone's ideas. We can't wait for it to open either.

Going Back in Time!

What to do with the last 2,000 square feet at the Garden State Discovery Museum? It has been referred to as Narnia for 3 years now and it's our only large storage space. (Narnia is located to the left of our Sport Court for those of you who are familiar with our museum.) If we are going to sacrifice storage then it had better be worth it.

The DINOSAURIUM idea was introduced to us by a dino fan and artist friend of ours. His sketches included dino skeletons to climb, puppeteer, and build. Our young exhibit crew took the ideas and ran with gusto. A giant dig was included in the center, a pteranodon sculpted by Eric Schultz shrieking and flying overhead, fog, lights, amplified sound and enough paleontological play to keep even the most precocious of young dino experts busy for hours. The whole space will be converted using certified green building materials with daylighting, sensored lights, and save the planet tips around every corner! The planning and designing is always the fun part. Then we take the big ideas and see how much it is going to cost to convert our Narnia into an authentic dig sight in tribute to South Jersey's role in paleontology fame. The first dinosaur was discovered in Haddonfield, NJ just 5 miles from the Museum.

$250,000.00 is the ticket price and we are going to raise this a dollar at a time! We are now launching the campaign DOLLARS FOR DINOS! We have already gotten a generous private donation of $10,000.00 to kick it off. So the race begins! Get your dollars in everybody. We are going back in time!
